New play area for Sombornes Preschool delights children

The Sombornes Preschool, situated in the new community building next to the Village Hall, recently unveiled a brand new outdoor play area, much to the delight of the 30 children who use this important facility every week.

The new preschool play area

Nearly £14,000 was raised to complete the works, part funded by Test Valley Council, local business Solent Stevedores, and contributions and fundraising from parents and the Christmas Wreath Making event.

The existing grass area (which during winter months becomes muddy and waterlogged) was removed and replaced with an EDPM rubber mulch surface, which is an all-weather, water permeable surface found in playgrounds and swimming pools. This was combined with some artificial grass, and mud kitchen area with bark chippings. The outdoor area can now safely be used all year round and in all weathers.

The children have loved ‘driving’ along the new road way, stopping at the traffic lights and learning to use the roundabout correctly!

Huge thanks to Vita Play, who completed the works to a high standard and competitive price, along with Mark Boyland for his time and assistance managing the project.
